who we are
Mitchell Layne provides legal nurse consulting focused on psychiatric and mental health cases.
We help attorneys understand complex psychiatric records, treatment histories, medication management, mental health damages, and functional impairment so they can more efficiently identify the clinical issues that matter to the case.
Led by Mental Health Expertise
Mitchell Layne is led by Jerica Mitchell, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 13 years of mental health experience.
Her background spans both direct patient care as a psychiatric nurse and advanced practice as a psychiatric prescriber, with experience across inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, psychiatric emergency care, community mental health, correctional and forensic settings, geriatric psychiatry, telepsychiatry, and disability evaluation.
Her clinical background is complemented by formal legal nurse consultant training through LSU New Orleans and law-firm-based legal nurse consultant training with Irwin Fritchie Urquhart & Moore LLC, providing practical exposure to medical record review, case analysis, chronologies, and litigation support.
This combination of bedside, prescribing, and legal-medical experience allows Mitchell Layne to provide focused review of the psychiatric and clinical issues that may be significant in litigation.
We help attorneys understand cases involving psychiatric treatment, suicide and self-harm, behavioral health care, mental health damages, psychotropic medications, pre-existing psychiatric conditions, and functional impairment.
We clarify symptom progression, treatment patterns, medication changes, documented response, and other clinical factors that may affect the case.
We identify conflicting documentation, missing records, unexplained changes in the clinical history, and areas that may require further investigation.
We help distinguish pre-existing psychiatric conditions from subsequent complaints and evaluate how documented symptoms may relate to damages and functional impairment.
We organize complex psychiatric information into clear, usable case resources and help identify issues or records that may require additional expert review.
